An ID Lock is a lock designed to use a personal form of identification in order for it to be opened, as opposed to a tag or physical key.

Those used within Union Space can be split into three basic categories.

  • Biometric ID Lock - Uses one or more of several common biometric identifiers.  This form of ID Lock is also found in some non Union societies.
  • CITI ID Lock - Scans for information on the Union Citizen's CITI and uses that information to determine access.  It can be set to allow individuals belonging to a certain group or organization, or having a certain position in a company, access without having to specifically add that individual to the list of those authorized to access a location sealed with that lock. Since MITIs contain the all the information contained on a CITI in addition to information related to military service, current or former service members can also use this type of lock.
  • MITI ID Lock - Required information stored only on a MITI such as current orders, command authority - besides that granted automatically with rank, details on security clearance ect.  It can be set from allowing any military personel to open the lock to only allowing someone with the proper security clearance and specific orders to acess an area.
