The Inhabitants of Nilfeheim refer to themselves as Norse. (Neo Viking is a term given to them by others.) They trace the term Norse to the Norsemen. It refers to the group of people as a whole who spoke what is now called the Old Norse language belonging to the North Germanic branch of Indo-European languages, especially Norwegian, Icelandic, Faroese, Swedish and Danish in their earlier forms.
The meaning of Norseman was "people from the North" and was applied primarily to Nordic people originating from southern and central Scandinavia.
