Union Post Office
Federal Institution and part of the "Right to be connected" family of Assembly resolutions.(just like Space Bus and GalNet ). As the Union was founded only the United Earth had a dedicated Postal service (United Earth Post Office) which in turn was a direct development of the various government sponsored Postal services that existed on Earth.
The need and desire for private citizen to send written notes, contracts, small packages to friends and family was deemed an important aspect of keeping every Union citizen regardless of his or her location connected to the rest of the Union. This is expressed in a number of Union basic rights and reinforced by the famous "Right to communicate Act " of 2221.
Every Union Post office offers various services such as a Public GalNet Terminal, the ability to send verified (signed) and legal binding messages and documents, to access Union Bank Accounts even without Credit Strip, to send and receive small packages of up to 1000 kg and maximum dimensions of 10 x 10 x 10 meters to any recognized Union destination (with a Post Office). Med Station, Post Office and Union School are the first Union Installations even a small Colony is able to receive.
The revival of 2Dee Picture Cards send as souvenirs from unusual places has a huge fan base and souvenir post cards are sent from the furthest corners of the Union and with many billions of these being delivered every day.
Postal Fees are affordable and sending a post card is 1 Credit. Sending a package of maximum weight and dimensions is 400 Credits (regardless of Distance)
There are restrictions of what can be shipped .(No life forms, hazardous items etc)
Union Post Ships are unarmed, but well shielded and very fast. Interfering with Union Post traffic is harshly punished.
