Union System Defense Guard

Udeg

A Military Branch of the United Stars. Developed out of local military Units and in concept similar to the Pre Astro National Guard Military of Earth. Many Union Systems and Planets have Defense Guard Units and some local Governments require mandatory service. While these local Defense Guard Units do not belong to Fleet, Army or Marines and they are not considered reserves, they are separately organized under Federal Level command, and are under the Assembly Armed Forces Control. In case the Union declares war or war is declared upon, the Union System Defense guards are under Presidential Command, but their first Charge is to defend their own Systems. Union Defense Guards are restricted in equipment and ships. Military Weapons of Class X or above (Translocator Cannons, Loki Torpedoes) can not be issued to Union Defense Guard. Defense Installations such as System Forts, Planetary Defense Batteries with Class X(10) weapons are strictly under Union Army Control. Service in a System Defense Guard Unit is considered Public Service (minimum 24 standard Month) as required by Union Law as part of the Citizen duties. Service in a System Defense Guard Unit also meets the requirements for Union School Teachers and Post Office Employees. The Sol System has one of the biggest SDG organizations (Umbrella Guard) and Sol System citizens reaching their 16th years must serve 24 month in the SDG. The Saran Black Shadows are considered a SDG, and so are the Imperial Praetorian Guard of Pan Saran. The Klack Queen Guard and her Battle Moons are also SDG and this is the reason the Old Battle Moons are not equipped with TL Cannons. Any System with at least one occupied planet with Assembly Representation is allowed to form a System Defense Guard or System Militia, but it must register it with the System Defense Guard Association , be open to controls and send quarterly activity reports. Some Systems and Planets use their Defense Guard Units as Police Force and in this case must register their Law Enfocement agency with Union Police.
